Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera?
$250-$500 (but the lower the better)

Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
The smaller the better, I plan on having it with me all the time -- need to put in pockets etc.

Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
+4MP

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
A standard zoom is fine, but if I can go to Ultra w/o much more size then sign me up.

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
8-10

Do you care for manual controls?
I plan on taking a photography class soon, so yes.

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?
Pretty much everything here in NM. Pics of friends indoors, outdoors, night and day, lots of scenery and such. It will also come on trips -- backpacking, camping, riding, concerts

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
I would like the option of 8x10s maybe even bigger depending on the picture

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
more than likey

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
yes -- longboarding, swimming, etc.

Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
Like: Canon, Nikon, Olympus
Neutral: Sony, Panasonic
Hate: Casio, Kodak

Are there particular models you already have in mind? (These come from reading reviews and forums)

Quite a selection of cameras you have there!
I would narrow it down a little then compare.
The Oly C-8080 is a bigger animal and has all the manual controls you'd want as a student - if you can go to that that one would be teriffic. Other than that I would narrow it to the C-770 ( or C-765), The Panasonic FZ20, also look at the more compact FZ5, or more compact with less zoom the Canon A95 lots of manual control. If you really want to learn, but the C-8080 is too big, try the KM A-200 which I have and am very pleased with

Looks like you might want a camera that has a weatherproof body, for the backpacking, camping, longboarding, swimming etc.
