Hello all, I am looking for an SLR camera that fits the following specifics:

Budget: $550-800.....but I get this strange and painful itching sensation when I get closer to the 800 mark.

Size: Doesn't matter ;)

How many megapixels will suffice for you?: 6+

What optical zoom will you need?: 3x min, but I wouldn't mind buying extra lenses for telephoto etc...

How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10): 10 (I do alot of detail shots)

Do you care for manual controls?: Love 'em.

What will you generally use the camera for?: Product photography, wide angle landscape shots, portraits and naked pictures.

Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?: Yes (naked pictures ;)
But seriously yes, I will be doing some advertisments for magazines so it is important.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?: Yes, in fact mostly indoor low-light.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?: Yes.

Are there particular brands you like or hate?: Ummm, you tell me.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?: Canon Rebel 6.3mp

Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD): Everything except hotshoe and rotating lcd...what is hotshoe anyway?

AGain the camera MUST be SLR and have many available lenses...what do you think guys n girls?
Thanks in advance

A hotshoe allows you to attach an external flash. All dSLRs have them, I believe.

The 350D used, d70 with kit lens used, upcoming d50, pentax 8st DS, or the venerable 300D may be your options.

Considering the itch - just thought i'd warn you: quality lenses will each run you several hundred dollars too ... it's not a trivial expenditure.

And if quality is your upmost criteria, then get ready to spend many times what you will pay for the body, on your lenses. :p

I think the itch may turn into a rash. But that is ok, as long as I get the regular lense with the camera.

Any ideas where I can get one for like 600? :D

Cheers for all the info xx

Might I suggest a simple off brand triple-antibiotic ointment. I really just have been dying to use the word ointment, I hardly get the opportunity so thank you for presenting it! :D

It sounds like, according to your budget, the 300D body plus a decent lens (check the lens forum for the current chatter). The new rebel XT and D70(s) are both going to cost approx 899 for body only, the new Nikon D50 may also be an option but has been scheduled for release sometime in june... not too far off, but only you know your schedule.

What makes the XT special?
Unfortunately this type of rash is malignant :)

great, almost 20D performance for very cheap. It also is very small and light. If you dont mind the latter, then it is a fantastic camera. The images it produces are astounding. ISO 1600 is very clean and useable. Color rendition is amazing, and the camera processes very fast.

I am pretty sure that I didn't say anything was particularly special about the XT, I only mentioned it was out of your price range... ;)

In your case you might actually want to buy the camera body only, and then buy lenses separately. The lens that comes with the Rebel is rather low quality, as lenses go.
