View Full Version : What 'flavour' avi format is supported by my FujiFilm S7000?

I have a FujiFilm S7000. I recently took some little movies and used my work computer to mix them all together to music etc for a bit of fun and save them as 1 large mpg. I then wanted to convert the large mpg back to an avi (I found a bit of software on the web for this) so I could put it back on the camera so I could take it home to amuse friends and family. I don't have a very good home computer so play back at home is best done on the TV via my camera. I'm not trying to achieve anything professional, it is just for a little bit of fun.
Anyway the problem I have is I don't know what 'flavour' of avi I need for the camera to be able to see the movie file. I have since found out avi is a sort of 'container' format and there are many ways the audio and video can exist in an avi file (not a very standard standard?!?)
Does anyone know a way to allow me to convert any common video format (eg mpg, I'll even accept wmv if it works!! :-) to the flavour of avi that will alow me to view it on/via my S7000?

Thanks.

Hi,

according to GSPOT video codec software it uses: Motion JPEG including Huffman Tables, also know as MJPEG or MJPG decompressor.

My suggestion would be to use Windows Movie Maker, which supports the s7000 files and comes free with Windows XP, to join / edit and add music etc and (I think!) will save the file in its original format.

If you have access to a CD or DVD Writer, there are some very simple to use (free) software packages out there which you can use to convert the completed file to either DVD or VIDEOCD format.

Saves the camera, gives you a permanent copy and you can send one to the in-laws for that hard to find Christmas pressy ;-)

Thanks Keith, I have been using MS Moviemaker, but I didn't realise it can output avi directly. I don't know if it is the right flavour to be compatible with my camera though. I shall give it a try.

Thanks again.

Sorry, Spoons, I got it wrong, moviemaker saves to .wmv.

I'll get back to you shortly with the answer, least I can do.

No you were right. You can save as avi from MovieMaker (I think there was even a choice of flavours). None worked on my camera though :-(
