Hi, I just got a new FZ5. I noticed that there is a rattle coming from the lens when I tip or handle the camera. (Normal handling, that is)
Normal?
Thanks-
Bill

If it is not your lens hood, it is not normal. My lens doesn't rattle.

Thanks. I've read posts from other Panasonic camera owners complaining about similar rattles, though. I guess I'll go back to shop and see if the demo rattles in the same way.

I have and FZ20 and on page 113 of the manual (problems section) it states that a little lens rattle is normal, not to be concerned, and it does not effect the operations of the camera or the quality of the photos. I would think that this would be for the FZ5 as both camera are quite similar.

Before you make your trip to the shop, check out page 112 of your Owner's Manual:
5: The camera will make sounds caused by internal mechanical movement when it is shaken.
• The sound arises when the lens moves. This is not a malfunction.
This is true of all the FZ series cameras.

Thank you all. I did stop by Circuit City, just to look. They had two FZ5's in boxes underneath the counter (none on display). I asked to look at one and, as expected, it made the noise, too. So, thank you!

More specifically, it comes from the IS elements being partially free. Nothing to worry about, unless pictures become a problem (that means something else is broken.. ;) )
