about a week ago, there was a deal on a Dell 2005FPW that could have been had for about $360. unfortunately, the deal has expired and the price is back to over $500 (you can find a new Dell coupon deal at http://slickdeals.net just about every week). this is a 20" widescreen monitor that is pretty much as good as you can get as far as inexpensive lcd monitors (i believe it shares the same panel as the apple cinema display). for the price you wanted, you can still get the 19" regular aspect version, the E193FP.

there will always be compromises with color on lcd monitors unless you're willing to pay thousands, but i've found the Dell monitors to be quite good (we use the 2001FP at work and i think it performs quite well for the price). if you're particularly discriminating with color, i still think your $350 would be better spent on a really nice 19" CRT monitor.

here's a link to a comparison of the Dell panel compared to the 20" Apple Cinema Dsiplay:

Apple recently cut its prices on their displays, but they remain comparatively expensive. good luck with your monitor hunt!
