I see from the S3100.pdf (http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/DigitalCamerasProducts.jsp?dbid=789909&item=I789909&subitem=SIBrochure789909&urltype=servicesupport-multi&product=43861000&sscucatid=664271&sscucatid=664272&NavBarId=SIBrochure789909)

that the camera has the following manual options:-

shutter speed from 1/2 to 1/15000 sec
6 manually selectable presets for White Balance
5 manually selectable presets for flash

I had a quick look at the camera today. As it had just been received in the shop the salesman knew nothing about it, and as the shop was in the middle of a sale and was over-run with bargain-hunters, I didn't get much time with the camera.

It looked pretty good to me - I particularly like the lcd viewfinder as I can use it without my glasses (for extreme distance) and it is very clear. This, the 6x zoom, the AA batteries and the size of the camera are big pluses for me.

The 6x optical zoom seems more than enough for my needs ( I have a 105mm lens for my Nikon FM and that has always more than done the job).

I know that the S5000 and the yet to arrive S5100/S5500 have more manual options, but at some $200 Aust more - the biggest extra for these cameras is the 10x optical zoom, which I don't need.

As a new entrant into the world of digital photography, and as I really only want to use digital images at 1024x768 ( only using 1.2 megapixels - at 1280x960 - of the 4 megapixels available) on my 19 inch PC monitor, I think that the S3100/S3500 should be adequate for my needs as even with my Nikon I'm only a "holiday" photographer, though with the ability of moving digital images straight to my PC I think that this will quickly change.

What do the more expert among you think of the manual options available on this camera? are they sufficient for a newcomer?
