So I keep reading threads about blur problems with the W1, and people saying it's not an issue. Could someone clarify this a bit further? ie, is it a manufacturing problem, due to shooting conditions, etc.
Also, any reports of it with the W5?

I hope in the effort to make things clear I don't muddy them up further.
- Most people have very good luck with the W1, and take one clear, well-colored picture after another. I've taken 1000 pix so far, with no evidence of blur.
- A considerable amount of people who have experienced a "blur" admit to not having read the manual. After following the instructions, many admit that their image issues have cleared up. I composed a blog for those people, which seems to have had good success.
- One user claims that the W1 is the victim of occasional "batch" problems; most cameras work great, but small batches may have the blur issue. This is anecdotal, but worthy of serious attention.
- For your personal safety, I urge you find a vendor who accepts returns or full credit toward a future purchase.
Sadly, the W1's "uncertainty factor" only makes customers less willing to risk on what's turned out for me the be a fine camera.

Could you possibly link to the blog? I'd be interested to see what the particular issue is.

You can find my W1 blog here:

It contains instructions for speedy use of the camera, solutions to problems like blur and red-eye, and an URL for the complete instruction manual.

Excellent advice in your blog. It is a must read for all (potential) W1 owners and also applies for W5 and W7 as well.
Just one little note, the LCD is 2.5".
Pausing at the half way mark on the shutter is important advice in a number of recent Sony cameras that feature very fast shutter response. Sony have a number of (almost) unique approaches to their cameras. They don't wait for focus lock before firing the shutter.
The other thing that many people find odd with Sony cameras is the way the screen gains up in low light. Again, it isn't until you start to press the shutter, so that pause can be helpful. I assume this process is to save power, but it is odd and many people think the Sony's do not gain up in low light.
When I first picked up a W1, I was really impress by it, however I did find the LCD a little grainy.
What really had me confused was how to get into the manual aperture and shutter speeds. Set the dial to M seems resonable and intuitive. But having to press the centre of the 4-way control is truely baffling.
Yes. You MUST read the instructions for the W1.
