View Full Version : Canon A80 or A85
I was wondering what is the better camera. They have different focal lengths (whatever that may mean). What are the tradeoffs? I am new to this so please bear with me-Thanks
Yep, I was looking at the Kodak DX7440 but am now thinking of the A85 and was wondering what people thought of it. I've heard it's a very slow shutter lag.
Also, does anyone have any views on the Canon IXUS 500 or 430?

The two most striking differences between the a80 and a85 (for me) both seem to favour the a80.
The a80 has an articulated LCD that is useful in particular light conditions and allows the screen to be "stowed" giving the impression that it is protected.
The a80 also has a larger ccd which would result in better images. This is true unless canon have used better ccd technology in the a85.
The a85 does have more "movie" capture options than the a80.
As an asside the 5mp a95 is out but it is more expensive, unless what Limey has to say on the matter is true!
Does anybody have anything favourable to say about the a85 over the a80?

The A85 is actually the successor to the A70, so the feature set, size, CCD are similar.
The true successor to the A80 is the A95.
The A80 is the better camera IMO if you're comparing the A85 and A80.

I questioned canon about the the A85 having the same size sensor as the A75 but having more pixels now. There comment is as follows, "The PowerShot A85 uses a new sensor. Even though the sensors are the
same size (A75), the A85 can utilize the added megapixels." So maybe they have used better ccd technology?

You'd think that they would be screaming it from the rooftops if they had made improvements like that?
