I have a PHOTOSMART 945. This is my first digi cam. The pix that I have taken look good from what I can see. Recently, I've discovered this site and notice a lot of people don't like HP digi cams. I"m not an expert, but what's so bad bout my HP? Is it really that bad of a digi cam and what should I buy to replace it? All feedback would be appreciated.

Thx.

You were lucky enough to pick up the one decent HP cam that HP offers. However, it simply pales in comparison to the offerings by all the other major companies in functionality and image quality. HP as a whole just doesn't "get" how to make great digital cameras. They are definitely passable (but that's not good enough of course!), but they've tended to err on oversimplifying things (even more so than Kodak) in ugly, bulky packages.

I appreciate your honesty.

I've been doing some reading before your response and I'm thinkin' of getting one of these three CANON digi cams:

A75
A85
A95

I know the A75 will do 8 X 10 just fine and of course more pixels means I can edit and crop more, but is it worth paying the extra money for the A95?

Should I settle for the in-between of the A85?

Your feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,again.

Hi sbnr,

If it were me, I would first find what the HP can not do for me and then spec out other cameras. It seems you are content with what you are getting from the HP at the moment.

Just my 2¢. Cheers

The A95's tilt swivel LCD screen is a plus but really besides that all those models preform very well.

I realize I don't want to pay that much for an A95...even if it is a great cam,but the red eye isn't as good as the others,so I shopped around in town and got lucky and found a new A75.

Haven't even opened it out of the box yet...

If anyone knows of where I can get some great deals on memory cards or accessories for my new toy, I would appreciate it.

I"ll post some pix up once I play with it for a while.

Thx for the positive responses...

*puts up HP 945 up for sale* ;)

Congrats on getting the A75. It's the best $200 camera you can get. :)

Best prices on memory cards? Check Costco. I haven't found them lower anywhere else, even with rebates.

There was a time when HP represented the very low end of digital cameras, but then they actually started to improve and learn their craft. The same held true for their printer division, and photo quality printers. Good image quality but about a 1 year fade life. While still not up to industry standards on the camera end their newer cameras (like the 850 and the 945) appear to be a big improvement (as are their newer photo printers).

If you like the operation and images you are getting from the 945, then why would you want to spend more money on a new camera with lower resolution and less zoom.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge advocate of the Canon A75, A85, and A95, but in the case where someone already has a camera they like I don't see an advantage.

I understand what you are saying, but I was getting bored with this cam and I like the idea of having more options with the controls, etc.

I bought the A75,but now I just bought the A95 and I"m taking the A75 back because I want to do more cropping and editing with my pix.

I did love my HP,but I'm selling it cause I need the money for the newer digi cam and because it was kind of too big to lug around...especially when I go to E3 this May in L.A..
