Minolta Maxxum 7D

How do I determine if a Maxxum 7D is a late production vs older (not updated) version? Is that an important issue? I'm near buying one..

As far as i know, the only 'updates' that happen to a camera during the production run are firmware upgrades, which will work regardless of when it was made. Shouldn't really make a difference, I think.
