I want a tripod for my DMC-FZ3 but I don't know where to get one. Is there only one that will work for this specific camera or are tripods universal?
Also I would like a small tripod that will travel very easily too. Even if it is just a small stablizer that will fit in the camera case. Anything like that exist?

almost all tripods are universal. Just make sure whatever you decide to buy has a hotshoe/quick release. Are you located in the US? If so then check out your local Target store. I bought my 60" tripod there for $30.

They are universal
One word of advice spend more than you want to for a tripod and perhaps you will only have to get one not 3 or 4 hunting for a good one.
Spend over $100.00
Be sure you check out the Bogen / Manfrotto line

IMHO
Spend over $100.00 and you should be getting something you can use for several years

What about something very compact? I like traveling and hiking etc and I would like something that will have quick use and small packing size.

In that case look at the monopods instead of a regular tripod. I've seen some really nice ones that also double as a walking stick.
Btw, paying over $100 for something thats only going to hold your camera steady is plain silly. Carbon fiber construction? Give me a break. Its not a damn race car.

I am kind of fond of this, $20 and it works well:

I have to agree I tried a few tripods and returned them until I went back to square one and took Genece's suggestion and went with a decent manfroto.
I'm sure it's preference but You get what you pay for.
Paying for something to just hold a camera???? Pros, depending what they use them for pay upwards of $300-400. If I want to take a chance of my camera getting damaged or missing a shot due to a tripod mishap or limitation I'd rather pay the higher amount. Again just my opinion. Everyones different.

I also want to add, that even if I upgrade my camera, I won't have to upgrade my tripod :)
