Nice shots Wes and Geoff.

Wes how did you do the groovy framing?

Such a great site this - so many people with ideas and photos to share - an inspiration for beginners like me.

Thanks everyone

I could lie and tell you I hand painted it, but I used this PS filter. http://www.extensis.com/en/products/product_family.jsp?locale=en_US&id=1022

It is used to frame photos and also has a few other effects. Wonderful tool if you dont mind spending a little on it.

I will say that similar effects can be produced by hand. Create a layer mask and paint over the edges with a dry brush or whatever suits your fancy. If thats not very clear, let me know and I'll try to be a bit more specific.

Thanks for the PS filter info. - sorry your had to let the secret out ;-). In the mean time I shall have a go with the hand drawn effect.

Thanks for the replys. I would have posted a bit more in detail in the above post, but I was headed for class and didn't have time. If you want more info on that particular PS filter or any of my editing techniques, please feel free to ask. I'm not an expert, but I have used PS quite a bit.

I thought maybe you guys would like to see the picture exactly as it came from the camera. I enjoy seeing other people's before and after photos. It always helps me in deciding how to edit my own. So heres the original for all of you that want to see it.

I took out a few distracting flaws with the healing brush. I also adjusted levels, contrast, curves, saturation, and overall color. I cleaned it up by taking out noise, and sharpening it.

Hope that helps someone.

One of my favorite "daytime" stops/tours in Vegas. The cactus garden is very nice, and their water reclamation plant is pretty cool as well. I'm surprised that they didn't get the humor as there are usually a couple of sales ladies from the UK working the counter.

You do know that this picture is related to the M&M shot, right? Ethyl was a member of the Mars family wanting to produce fine chocolate, and went her separate way for many years. I understand that it is all under the Mars umbrella now.

By the way, I meant to mention that I used my good old SD500 for this photo.

Yes it is quite interesting - we had a step on tour guide take us there during our school trip to the West - she was a scream, an elderly lady of Dutch origin who knows Vegas inside out and has lived & worked there for many many years - she worked for the guy who owns that big estate with the horse statues ~ can't remember the details ... and I can't tell you what one of her important jobs was with the breeding of the horses ....Anyway - back to the MnM's - here's a snapshot of the chocolates inside. nothing special - but maybe I should have put it in the food thread...

This may be one that can be cross posted. ;) OR you could put it on the food thread and delete it here (gotta keep Jeff happy).

In homers words... mmmmmm! Choc-let.

No it's not really cross threaded!! It's following on in the MnM's thread as it started out about MnMs and this was Ethel M's chocolate place is Vegas - so although to the casual drooler it may seem like it belongs in the food thread - I really meant it to carry on in the MnMs thread. :)

Yah, we know, but the food guys needed some good chocolate, after all that Cajin food.

Go on then - if you have any choccy pics - start a thread and we'll see who's got choccy pictures to offer - I tend to find I've eaten it before I think about photographing it!! ;)

Yup the only way you can actually photograph chocloate in this house is behind a glass counter (which we don't have). Even then it's in jeopardy.
