I must admit, I find a lot of statue photos boring...but every once in a while, you see some striking ones. I think this one came out O.K. It's a statue to commemorate General Sherman in Grand Army Plaza...at the Southeast entrance to Central Park. When I got home I realized, ironically, I left Sherman out of the picture! And that the horse's head has replaced his! :D Oh well...

Canon SD500, auto, the camera chose f/4.9, 1/320 sec.

Nice vivid picture - well done. I know what you mean about the riders head - it's the sort of thing that happens from time to time - and you don't realise until it's too late and you can't go back and do it again from a slightly different angle. A great photo non the less.

Shooting statues in Central Park could be a career thing. Good shot.

Here is an adder to the statuary.

Nice shot...

But, for some reason, that statue creeps me out...I can't put my finger on it... :D

The second one is really well done...beautifully controlled field depth. Is that the A-200 again?

Geoff Chandler

Both A-200. - Funny, I've never been a Minolta person - always Olympus, with a more than slight interest in Canon and Nikon - but this particaular Minolta does all the things I wanted more or less - and seems to work well.

These are digital copy of my old film pictures.
Easter Island is very mysteries place. Still nobody is sure why in the world they build all this statues. Actually by building them they destroyed their society. The trees that were grown up at the island at that time were used to transport statures around. Then there were no more trees left. They did not have any wood to build a boat. Cannibalism has started. We visited the cave with the scary name: “the cave where men are eaten”. It was almost as in “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde: the men were dying the statures were thriving.
Easter Island is definitely a place to visit.

Rawhide, Arizona is a touristy western town mock-up located up by Scottsdale, moving to Gila River at the end of this year.

This monument is dedicated to the American Cowboy, unfortunately I forgot to write-down the artist/sculptur. Also one of the few times I didn't have the monopod with me so it may be a bit blurry.

f3.5, 1/6 handhled, ISO800, 18mm (sigma 18-125).

Thanks for the kind words. I was really happy that it came out (the rest were a disaster). I've always liked Remington-esque western sculpture. Theres one over at the entrance to West World that I've been meaning to shoot as well.

This is one of the others...Wild Horses, Old Town Scottsdale, AZ - f16, 1/30, ISO200, 68mm (Sigma 18-125).

As I was editing my shots from Denmark I found this shot of The Little Mermaid, which is a testimonial to Hans Christian Andersons character. A little different from Disney's representation.

Yes - but someone doesn't like her. She's been decapitated twice (I think), lost her right arm, and more recently (2002-2003 ish) blown up!! In that attack she was dynamited off her rock and into the sea. So far as I know she's back on duty again now. When were you there George, and were you carrying explosives????

I was there in November and she seemed to be none the worse for wear (as you can see).;)

Since she is out beyond Kastellet, by the marina, it is easy access for vandals. The only explosives on-board that day were from the beer and dinner the night before...

I like the Nyhaven area and plan to make this an annual trip if possible. Next time I hope the sun comes out as my photos will attest. For more (and there are more to come) Copenhagen:

Some nice shots on your gallery, esp. those from planes. They always put me over the wings - so few opportunities for a clear shot. I have some nice shots of the Andes on a CD somewhere... Never been to Denmark - apart from the airport. I guess that doesn't count, though.

A nice country, in spite of the idiot cartoon fiasco. Just shows me that ignorance is a way of life in some religions. I suppose christianity was that way at one time...

Copenhagen, at least from the Nyhaven perspective is great. Like I said I would return in a nanosecond.;)

Err. Umm. We here in Northern Ireland have made ignorance, religious intolerance and inter-community violence a bit of a speciality over the last 30 years or so (or 300 years - depending on whose history books you read..).

All reasonably quiet now. Peace has broken out (more or less, anyway).

I rarely take statue photos, but I was out this morning and shot quite a few (http://flickr.com/photos/silverturtle/tags/statues/)actually. This one - located at Battelle Waterfront Park - had a long description about its dedication and commission to honor freedom for all the people in the city of Columbus. Of course it was one of the few times I didn't bring along a little notebook to jot down important information, so no idea who the artist was.
