I was debating between the Canon S1 IS, and the KonicaMinolta Dimage Z3, and chose the Z3 initially.

After having the Z3 for several days, I did some photos in the park, and reviewed several websites regarding this camera, and found that this site had the most concise review i've found.

Just wanted to say thanks to the editor here at this site for enlightening me on the subject of 'smoothed' images that are found with the Konica-Minolta Dimage Z3. Also with the ISO image quality issues found during the night scenes.

I traded up to the Panasonic Fz20, and I was completely impressed with the change in image quality. The two were like night and day.

What the heck was I thinking?! Good thing the photo store has a good exchange policy.

Thanks guys!

yeah... the Z3 made my short list too, however when i went instore to look at them.... the build quality is rubbish, screen too small and poor, manual focus rubbish.... poor form from K.M. i loved their 35mm SLR's and lenses too....

i chose b/t the Canon G6 and the FZ20... I'm pretty happy with the panasonic.

Yeah - I wasn't so worried with the screen size, although I did notice they are running a new Z5 model with a larger 2 inch screen (I guess to compete).

My main problem was the lens. The lense on the Lumix FZ20 is far better than the one on the Z3. Plus the fact that you can use standard filters is a plus aswell.

Anyone have any recommendations on filters, and whether I can just use a standard one from the Camera store, or if I need a special make of one?

Thanks!

Without getting into details, you can use any standard filter, provided it is the right size. On the size issue, you may want to look back in the archives of this group regarding adapters.

Basically, the size of filter you need depends on the adapter you use to provide threads for the filter.

The thread below:

is a good starting point.

My own experience has been to buy the Phayee adapter described in a few threads and use 62 mm filters. this is one of the preferable adapters because it will place the filter close to the lens, and the filters will be cheaper than the 72 mm ones you would need if you stuck with the plastic adapter provided by Panasonic.
