Here's some typical outer London area rooftops in the evening...
Here's some typical outer London area rooftops in the evening...Wow...I really like the mood of this shot! It’s very effective! But, I wouldn't be able to help myself from editing out the TV antenna on the right... :D . It would remove a slight visual distraction and I think it would enhance the symmetry of the image…

Nice shot Geoff.
I think rooftops are another often neglected photo opportunity - so much detail and character in the tiles, chimneys, pots and aerials, etc. I should take more myself.

I love this shot. I like how the near roofline angle matches the angles of the distant rooflines.

i've been meaning to post this shot for a while and geoff once again you have proved to be an inspiration. Please accept my appologies for posting in your thread. I thought you might like it though. it was one of those moments where there is never enough time to get to a good location before shooting, i only got off four shots before the light went. Hope you enjoy.
I love your shot though, very atmospheric. Reminds me of living in Bristol with all those Victorian terraces. Well done
Allan.

Allan - Hey! It's not MY thread, I just started it off. Please feel free to add to it, it's our thread, everyone who reads and posts on the site. Hopefully we'll get a few from other parts of the globe - mine was the top edge of Thornton Heath/ Surrey/ England.
Here's another selected at random and suitably cropped and reduced - it's a veiw from Norbury/Surrey/England looking towards Upper Norwood and showing the Crystal Palace Tower.

Great shots guys. I always find the various rooftops interesting subjects. Here's my contribution.
The French Quarter in New Orleans taken with an Olympus D-520:

What a nice thread. There is more mood and character in rooftops than I had suspected. Congratulations.

I hope this qualifies, This is what we have for roof tops. More trees than anything else. This was taken at 180 feet up. At Cypress Gardens. If it doesnt qualify, let me know and i will remove it. thanks.

Don't remove it! - It all adds to the flavour. Love your shots and very happy to have your's in this thread.
Looking forward to what else will be posted here
Here's one from London veiwed from St Pauls.
My favourites however are the close ups - like my first one - or Telephoto compressed perspective shots of roofs - maybe I'll put one of those in next time...

Geoff that looks great but ... I have a suggestion if I may :o . Your images are losing their resolution when being resized for web posting, at least on my ViewSonic Pro Series monitor. How are you resizing them? I know the quality is better than what I am seeing.
Ah...Firenze...one of my favorite places...
Taken with a Minolta Freedom 150 (a great little point-and-shoot pocket film camera), Agfa Vista ASA 200 film, scanned on an HP3330.

Yes - I notice som eare able to 'link' photos and not need to compress/resize so much. I use Serif (rather like Paint Shop Pro) - reduce the image size to around 800x600 - then, in the case of Serif, export (rather than save) as a JPG - at this point you decide how much compression to use and with Serif it is how much of the orig 100% - so these are usually in the region of 88 - 94% in order to get the file size down - ther is a preview also in Serif to see how much damage it is doing before you commit to saving. I have a Yahoo picture account - but I don't think I can link from it... If you have any ideas - i would be interested.
This Pic was a 3mp from the C-740UZ - reduced to 800 x 531 and compressed to 90%
It's Melfort Road between Thornton Heath & Norbury - not exactly roof TOPS but showing roofs and very telephoto giving that compressed perspective.
This is very fun seeing neighborhoods from around the globe. Especially since they're such great photos, also!

Daybreak. Rooftops veiw over Croydon/Surrey/England.
Couldn't be doing with any PP work ~ too fiddly for a quick example.!
I took 3, and the other 2 had nice sun burst streams but also had large apperture echoes in the image. (C-740 Christmas)
