I got one on order, but after extensive reading, I realize now that the supplied USB cable is some wonky combo AV cable? Is there an alternative USB-only, aftermarket, or Sony-branded verison?

Thanks.

yes, you can get a specific USB cable only, if you choose. But why, when you can get a memory stick reader that will be more functional for the same price?

I like to travel light; sometimes without a laptop. I'm still looking at portable storage vaults, like the Sony, Belkin, even the iPod Photo. There was a recent review on Gizmodo or Engadget about said vaults.

Know where to get a cable?

I've searched up'n down da intarweb...

:)

There is no USB-only cable for this camera, that I know of (regular USB cables won't work, as there is a proprietary connector on the camera), nor is there a replacement combo cable packaged with the camera available (though I'm sure you could probably order from Sony directly).

If anyone knows otherwise, do tell.

Came here to ask about the same thing. Just got mine today and am not real crazy about the combo cable. Would like to leave one usb cable at my PC and the other in my camera case.
Not sure if this has the right connector or not but this is what I found:
Cable (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?CategoryName=acc_DIAccessories_i%2eLINKCable s&ProductSKU=VMC15MU&TabName=specs)

Any suggestions for a usb reader?

The AC charger is quite bulky also, so don't plan on tucking it in your camera case. I have noticed that a compact wall charger is also available.

Sigh.

I think that's only for the T1 or T-series. It's (yet another proprietary) Sony connector.

We'll probably see one in a few months, if sales go real well for the DSC-P200.

Let's hope.

Let me also add, as far as a travel adapter, I've been using the iGo 3500 peripheral powering system to charge all the electronics I (sometimes) carry with me. It charges cameras, phones (Treo 650), music players (iPod), game devices (Nintendo DS, PSP), and other myriad gadgets (Bluetooth headset) you may have. Though near US$70, you'll get more bang for your buck, and they have tips for all the stuff I've ever needed (GPS unit even uses the same tip as the PSP). Though I never carry everything at once, I'm glad I only have one power supply to deal with. In addition to a US wall adapter, it also has a cigarette lighter plug and airline empower plug.

Their larger JUICE 70 can charge a laptop as well, but the tips are alas, different than those of the 3500, and not all the tips for the 3500 are available for the JUICE.

US$.02

So, no updates on any USB-only cables?

I ended up buying one of these instead:

I have readers too.

Does anyone know if these readers work with the iPod Photo camera connector and/or the storage vaults (Sony, Epson, et al)?

thanks.

USB-only cable for P200?

As an update, I've still not located a replacement cable, but did get a Sony card reader, which by the way, does not work with iPod photo. :(

The included cable does work with the iPod photo and cable connector. There's word that this is a battery drain on the iPod, but it's great when you're in a pinch, and don't desire carrying a laptop around.

This has got to be a record reply-to-your-own-post for all boards somewhere… anyway; Sony does indeed offer the replacement cable (no USB-only):
