View Full Version : Welland OTG - anyone use these?

A "host" consisting of a 2.5" HDD with an USB interface, that you can connect cameras, cardreaders and so on to. Couple of different models, one has an internal battery, and otheres use an external AA pack.
Its somewhat cheaper than similar products with internal cardreaders, but I have a hard time finding any reviews / comments on its durability.

I have a similar looking one with the external pack, it is not a bad idea as if I am going interstate say, I will just bring a 5v DC transformer rather than the battery pack, and when downloading photos to PC it draws power from te USB port...
The one I have is branded the "AnyData Digimate" it looks to be constructed in a fairly cheap plastic/aluminium shell. But it works fine, the operation is fairly simple, all you do do is set in host mode plug camera in and hit copy, and then when next to computer plug in to PC (uses 5v from the USB line to power itself) and switch to "device" mode and it mounts as removable drive...
Very simple device, looks very similar to the device you linked to, but has a small LCD on the front that displays the mode and the battery level. Cost me AUD$45 (US$35) without HDD, including carry case...

Now there are numbers of products on the market with the similar functions, which can connect to any standard USB devices without the need of PC. They apply the protocol called USB 2.0 OTG (On-The-Go), which is supplement to the USB 2.0 protocol. And most of the products use ALi 5637 chipset for these functions, and the firmware is upgradable which is good for future improvement. Now the new product with two way copy function is coming to the market very soon, so you can copy your songs from the product to your MP3 player.
