DSCW1 can't upload pictures

I bought a DSCW1 camera. I have win98SE, a version which is not factory installed. I installed the sony usb driver. It shows up in device manager, but not "my computer". I cannot upload any pictures to my computer, because there is no removable drive like there should ne in "my computer". I was at sony website, they suggest a problem with my usb hub. There is no available updated usb drivers for this computer (NEC). Anything else usb works fine. Got any suggestions?

I had exactly the same with my Minolta - I phoned technical help who kindly talked me through. I ended up manually looking for and installing the software via the control panel. With mine it sensed the camera and asked if I wanted to install and told it to search the CD and it said it couldn't find it!. I think this is a W98 thing. keep on trying - you'll get there in the end. Failing that call Sony technical help.
