View Full Version : Nikon Coolpix 3200 vs. Canon Powershot A75
I want to buy a small camera that I can take anywhere with me and which will do very good photos. Therefor I decided to buy Nikon Coolpix 3200. The problem is that I've heard that Canon Powershot A75 costes less and makes much better photos! The only problem is that it's too big.
I think that Nikon is better for me, but I still want to check because I want to make some art photos once in a while and therefor I need a good camera.
What do you think about it? And if you have some other cameras on your mind, please be kind to tell :-)
And please answer in simple English - I'm from Croatia, I don't speak English that well :-)
THANKS!
Pozdrav iz Hrvatske! :)

Perhaps if the Nikon 3200 doesn't offer the manual controls you desire and the Canon is too big, you may need to look at other cameras.
I have the Nikon 3100 and regard it as a handy holiday camera. The photos are adequate for holidays. I certainly couldn't use it for artwork however. My choice was between the Nikon 3100 and Canon A70. I chose the Nikon because it would fit my shirt pocket and because I already have other cameras for taking more meaningful photographs.
Basically:
Nikon 3100/3200 for holiday photos only.
Canon A75 for creative photos and holiday photos.

I had and returned the 3200 for these reasons. The pictures can get noisy in lower light situations indoors and the time between photos annoyed my wife. I have to say that the pics were pretty good and the size is great. I purchased a Canon A80 but I am put off by the size. I think I really want a smaller camera. For a point and shoot the 3200 gets good reviews and is truly a take everywhere camera though.

That's interesting. I never realised the write speeds on the 3200 were as slow as the write speeds on the 3100. Actually, I find no problem with the 1 - 2 second writing speed per photo. What is annoying is the fact it takes 15 - 20 seconds to write a 40 second video clip. My Canon S1 IS does not have these delays which makes me suspect that they're artificial delays put in by Nikon in an attempt to make people buy more expensive cameras. It wouldn't have been hard to put an ISO/manual control into the menu - no hardware changes needed.
