View Full Version : Are any of these "scene modes" equivalent to a "Night" shot?

Hello to all. I'm looking at the new Sony DSC-H1 camera for my first digital camera. (Love the 12x optical zoom with stabilizer!) I've read over LOTS of individual camera reviews on this website, and every one I've looked at includes a test night shot with the San Francisco city skyline. My question is, do any of these scene modes below sound like they would be appropriate to use for that kind of a picture? I copied the paragraph from the Sony website.

"Scene Selection Mode - With 7 Scene Modes, parameters can be matched to the shooting conditions. Choose from one of the following: Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Portrait, Landscape, Beach, High-speed shutter and Candle."

Also... would "high-speed shutter" be equivalent to a "Sport" mode on other cameras?

Thanks for the help. My photography knowledge is so poor... the more I read the more confused I seem to get. I need to take a class. Hands-on learning is more my style.

i have no knowledge of this camera, but if i were to hazard a guess, the Twilight mode would probably be the equivalent to a Night mode... perhaps they call it Twilight so that people don't expect extensive long exposure capabilities? it's interesting that there's a Beach mode too...

i believe so.

It is best to use the manual settings on a digital when shooting dark shots. The factory settings may help to gauge where your apeture should be but they set those in a certain light and call it twilight. You may not get the best exposure on a factory setting. I hope this helps a little. :)
