Hey everyone!
It seems like ages since I've posted...I have been watching new posts, but I have been so busy trying to learn PSE 4.0, it has been crazy!
I was commissioned to do a 50th Wedding anniversary slide show, which took up alot of time, then lately I've been working on Christmas pix for cards, whew:p
Anyway, here is a recent shot and I finally figure out an OK frame! I still need to play with frames. I really want the drop shadow stuff.
Where can I post the Christmas Photo? I'd like comments......
Thanks!!

other people to post bits and peices...
We want to see your Christmas photos!

For those who like roses, I have finally uploaded about 25 photos taken at the Portland Rose Garden last May (yeah I'm a little slow sometimes). Each photo is labeled with the name of the rose. This is only about 20% of the collection at this garden. If you get up to Portland this is a must visit, and the price is right (free). I will be posting a few more shots in this gallery as I sort through my notes.

Thanks Geoff, It was a nice day and a nice break. Since Portland is my 3rd home I wish I could spend more time shooting there. Maybe next spring I'll get back to re-shoot Silver falls, Hood River, and Seaside.

I have about 7 more shots to upload on this one, and then it's back to the desert...

Thanks for the compliment. The Roses on my site are only about 20% of the varieties available, and I shot about 150 others that I took notes on, but can't find my notes.

Anyway it was a fun outing. Like I said, a lot easier than shooting the desert.;)

Yup, fog in October is weird even for Morro Bay. Santa Cruz, Carmel Valley, and laguna Seca, were the places we would go to see the sun in the summer.;)

@dam - it's great. It's also a touch large to display here...
I have found that the height maximum should be around 580
and the width should be around 800 - 900 with a max for panoramas
at around 999.
If you size your pics within those parameters they will be able to display on a page easily and be asier to view.
Please post something you have taken yourself - along with the camera details
and whereabouts you are in the world
Thanks for joining in

One of the things I find - particularly with Flower

Nice shots Geoff. Good job on the framing too! Seems like I am the same on posting shots. I haven't had time to shoot much lately, in fact I've had the Canon 10-22 for several days and haven't had a time to try it yet. Big trip to New Mexico in Feb. should make up for it :) .

Yes it does. Should I go + or - or just to my liking? I usually do most of my shots in auto mode and wish later that I had played around with manual mode. Here is another from Biltmore.

Geoff Chandler

You'll have to evaluate it a bit - but basically - remembering the camera tries to average to to 18% grey - if there is a lot of dark foliage in the picture the camera will want to lighten it up a bit - this could be bad if there is a light coloured flowe in amongst it as it will get washed out - so that's when you so 'no I want it a bit darker' I like to take these in apperture priority so I can control the depth of field a bit more - but watch out for it selecting slower shutter speeds if you stop down too much
Have fun - experiment, I do!

Dennis - don't worry about it - I try not to!
I just come and go as I am able to these days - sometimes I have the time other times I can only grab the odd moment - but I try to keep up as much as possible - it keeps me in touch and it keeps me inspired.
Really looking forward to your pics from New Mexico though.

For info. Its a Bougainvillea, named after a Frenchman, Admiral Louis Antoine de Bougainville. It was first seen (by a European) in Brazil around modern Rio in 1760.

It's a lovely plant seen all over the world. It brings a riot of colour to many of the warmer parts of Europe - Greece for example

This was taken in an old olive oil factory near Kardamyli, in the far SW of Greece. Bougainvillea in the background

Thanks Geoff I was trying out your trick of using flash indoors to get the dark background without any pp and it seemed to work pretty well. I took several shots at different combinations of flash power & exposure compensation to see what worked the best & then just cropped them a bit to centre the shots. Actually the last one is cropped off centre largely because I was so close that the lense cast a shadow from the flash across the bottom of the flower. One day I will have to get a separate flash for my panasonic.

Nice sharp pansy you posted it seems to have survived the winter OK. All ours are well & truely dead.

Welcome back BE nice to see you posting again, no doubt youve got lots of shots built up. I can't wait to see them.

Well damn, my photo doesn't even compare to everyone else's but unfortunately this is the only "flower" one i have. I'm always looking for flowers but there are none around where I live. :( Amazing photos from everybody.

It's really a pity that there are so few flowers available to shoot where you live. I think flowers can make a really interesting subject.
Perhaps you will see some more when it gets spring ;)?

Here's an experiment I did a couple of days ago. I put the flower in front of the window. I kind of liked the reflection of the flower, though it would have been better had the window been cleaner.

Nice shot Prospero but how come you used such a long exposure & small aperture risking vibration blur?

Thanks Phill. I wanted to have the complete flower in focus, so therefore I used a very small apperture. I have tried the picture with many different appertures, and I found that I got the best result using f/36 - though the differences became smaller and smaller the higher I got. I obviously used a tripod, because the flower was indoors and the light was low. Anyway, the flower was in my house, so I had all the time in the world to take this picture and take every possible measure to prevent vibration blur.

Very nice photo. I may have to try some flower shots at some of the local casinos, oops, I mean gardens. I don't gamble, but one of the casinos has a very nice garden and I need to try out the new camera down there sometime.

Thanks for the explanation prospero now I understand. Her's one I caught yesterday morning just after a slight shower. I tried to get an out of focus background but the flower was very close to the leaves & it is difficult with a non DSLR. I was quite pleased with this result though & I liked the bright colour contrasts with the leaves & the pot. All comments/critique welcome, slight crop (about 15%) otherwise no post processing.

Prospero, It really is a pity that there isn't any flowers here yet. I hope they will start to bloom soon. I totally agree with you that flowers make a great subject. I think they go hand and hand with photography. Oh yeah, nice picture of the orange flower. Vibrant:)

This is all i can find.

Heres a few i have taken, These are the first i have posted, comments are welcome as i am a beginner at all this.I am amazed at how much pleasure photography brings me.Oh and none of these have been altered except to fit the web.
Camera is a Canon S2IS.
Not too sure how to show images like you guy's have but hey i am a newbie.Sorry they are so small.

Hey Tranor,
Welcome to this forum. Nice pictures. I like the waterdrops on the flowers.
If you attach more than one picture to a post they will show up in a list, like you see in your post. If you attach one at a time they will show up like you see in the other posts. So I think it is better to post your pictures one at a time so that everyone will see them.
You can also upload pictures your own server and then link to them using this button: http://www.dcresource.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif. Servers you can use are for instance Imagebucket or the webspace which is provided by your internet service provider (I don't know if every Internet service provider does this, though).
