OK heres the deal – need to replace my broken A70
Liked the quality that my A70 gave me and liked the different shooting modes, although 90% of the time I used full auto.
Now need to replace it, but with what???? My main use will be holiday snaps, kids, parties etc. - I really don’t need full manual control as I will never use it, as I say will mostly shoot in auto or scene modes if available
Most sites are pointing towards the A95 (due to quality of end product and full manual control mainly) But as I say I will never use manual, but I do want quality photos. One thing I didn’t like about the A70, was that in low light situations (using auto), it did struggle to focus at times, which was quite frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, if the A95 is still the total best camera to get, and has the same or similar low light focus issues, then I suppose I can live with it.
So what would the alternatives be, the new Nikon 5900 looks perfect, but seems to suffer from “softness” – the new canon SD range looks good (I don’t need 7MP though), or what about the older small Canons, ie the s400, s410, s500, or Casio Panasonic etc.
So bottom line is, would really like a great point and shoot that performs well in most cases, video mode on my A70 was fine, but if my new purchase had a better video then great (but stills is main priority) What about the A80, A85??? – again as I say if it has to be the A95, then fine but it just seems a waste to have all those controls without using them – is the smaller canons the answer???, or should I consider something else???
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very happy with the low light indoor shots. Canon seems to realize the importants of the focus assist light. If you plan on taking indoor snap shots (in low light)make sure the camera you purchase has one.

Two days ago i got my PANASONIC LZ2 : waaaooowww!

I have lost the Canon A80 i had for one year : very nice pictures, LCD in the sun : you don't see a pixel, shutter speed : slow, menu : complicated, zoom: 3x, size : big and a certain weight in the pocket.

Now my new LZ2 :

Menu : very easy and quick : don't have to go to menu, sub-menu, sub-sub-menu : you touch a button one or two times and you have EV compensation, bracketting,...

LCD screen : very good, even in the sun : 8/10 (with my Canon A80 : 3/10)

Start and shutter lag : very quick

Zoom : 6x, silent and fast, 20 steps (Canon 7 steps not silent)

Image stabilization : it works great, even shaking when shutting, sharp image

RED eyes : works fine, i haven't any pictures with red eyes, even when people looks right face of LZ2

Low light : it's very impressive compare to my Canon A80 : inside of the house (when cloudy and rainy outside), without flash, no light in the room, the pictures are very sharp, well exposed, i don't see any noise on the PC screen, the quality is very surprising!

There are not so many manuel functions like my Canon A80 or A95 (it's the same except 5MP), but they are very helpfull and all is quick, the EVF for me is not a problem while the LCD makes his job very well and the picture quality is very sharp for me.

Let's see this new review which represents my feelings with the LZ2 :
