I have been reading the reviews and checking the forums so much that my head is ready to explode but I think I have decided on Canon's Power Shot S1.

This will be my first digital camera (other than my sony camcorder) so not sure exactly what to look for or what I really need but think I've narrowed it down. I am concerned that even with the LCD's, I'm going to need an diopter correction knob because I can't or don't always wear my glasses so that leaves a lot of camera's out.

I like it's:
Picture Stabilization
Zoom
Flexible in both media storage and batteries

Can get camera, extra batteries, charger and case for around $330.

What's not to like and what else should I look at . . . . help please!

THANKS,

Hi,

I tried the Canon Powershot IS S1 for 15 days and returned it, because of the following reasons:

1. The image stabilization is not so good as advertised. (PS: I'm an average Point 'n shoot 'n go kinda user)
2. The LCD is way too small...your picture will look really perfect on the LCD, but you will find it is really blurry on the computer, because, the small LCD completely hides the imperfections in the picture
3. Its $300.00 (for camera alone) + accessories
4. It has only 3 megapixels
5. It locked up twice (with the lens extended) while shooting in the dark (like a moon in a dark night) and had to pull out the batteries to reset it.
6. IMHO it is too bulky!

I like the following with it:
1. Ultra-large zoom
2. Good reviews
3. Camera strap (like a prof. SLR)
4. Feels very sturdy.

But I found the A95 far more convincing than the S1 IS for the following reasons:

1. 5 MBPs
2. Excellent reviews
3. Pictures are really perfect (both in auto and manual modes)
4. Less than $270.00 for the camera

I hope this info helps in your decision.

Good luck on your purchase.
