I dropped my cam the other day, and after that, every single photos I took were blur. I assumed that the lens inside had shifted but not cracked because I didnot spot any cracked lens when looking at it from the outside.

I send to Canon for service, and phoned me back that it'll cost me US$159 (RM607) to replace the "Optical Unit", telling me that the whole optical unit had burst  . Is it worth the repair? Is that true the optical unit had burst and need a replacement  . Is it possible I gave to some camera shop to get it repair?

If I were to repair it, since the CCD for the "broken" optical unit of my S1 is the same, I assumed, as my old Canon IXUS V3; is it possible I transfer the CCD to the V3 because my V3's CCD has broken (It'll cost me US$147  if I were to fix it, that's why I buy the S1).

Generally, digital cameras aren't really worth repairing. It's more a case of them being disposable items that are replaced as soon as they break. With a new camera you get a new warranty. As far as dropping it is concerned, that's an unfortunate accident that could be covered by one of those insurance schemes.

That's crazy. US$159 will get you some very good camera accessories, or can be better spent elsewhere.

First of all, *ouch!* on the dropping of the camera. I'm sure it felt more like your heart dropping.

I would get it fixed. RM600 is a lot of money, but seriously; what can you get for that price? The camera must have cost you some RM1700 to RM1900, depending on the "freebies" you got. The only cameras that can compare with the S1 are the Panasonic Lumix and the Konica Minolta Z-series. From your currency, I take it you are from Malaysia. All the new models for these cameras are not here yet. Furthermore, based on best extrapolation, they'll all cost over RM2000, closer to RM2500.

And I would go with the Canon Service Centre. I remember going to a "general" camera repair shop many years ago to fix a oil seal problem on my SLR lens; they ended up messing with the light seal so all my photos has a streak of light running through it!! Seriously, the RM100 is not work the heartache.

I don't feel like throwing it away first, cos I'd already got a broken V3 and a broken A10... :( and I'd only bought my S1 for like 6 months. Yes, I got it for RM1700 here in Kuching Sarawak. Look like I have no choice but to get it fixed by Canon. Sigh. :(

Btw, if I don't have a camera, there's no point for me to buy accessories.

Anyway, how about the CCD transfer? Anyone know about it? Is it possible? I mean, both camera have a 3.2mp 1/2.7" CCD. I'm not sure whether they're exactly the same, but would it work?
