I'm interested to know if you compensated or did some post processing?? Only the exposure is good despite the masses of white snow that usually cause the picture to under expose.
Well done - good pics.

Well, heck, I thought we had a dog thread going already. Okay, anyway here she is again, Sandy; 1/2 Laborador retriever, 1/4 Husky, 1/4 Shiba, and 100% angel:

Geoff,
The only post processing was cropping and resizing.
The camera was set to "snow" mode however.
Norm,
I know we had the other dog thread going but the title "Very First Pic Taken..." didn't apply. Now we stand a chance of catching up with the cat people! :D

Not mine, but one of our department's K-9 dogs. His name is Akso. Bite worse than his bark. If you've never seen a K-9 at work, this is all play to him. Took this Monday during an explorer meeting with a 17 year old "suspect."

Nice pics - nice dog - like the 2nd pic striking a pose. How a bout the Dog's name and a few camera details...
Good pics from everyone, and your own dog is always the best isn't it.
Sadly I have no dog and haven't since I was a child (but mine was the best ever - a Manchester Terrier and BOY could it run!!!) we have a Cat but I don't want to set the Cat amongst the pigeons... Oh no - that was another thread wasn't it.. Confused? Dyslexia reigns KO

Here is another one of him so you can get to see his colors more accurately. He was taking a break on a sand bar from the creeking we were enjoying two weeks ago. We were told by the gentleman who gave him to us that both his parents were muts, we have no clue what breeds show up in his visible traits any guesses?

A few bigger photos of my dog. I finally figured out how to resize photos. Her name is Boo. She is a Weimaraner. We named her Boo because Weimaraners are nicknamed the Gray Ghost. Their hair is very short and a shiny silver gray color. She's about 15 months old now. I take her running/jogging every night for exercise.

the fluffy one, astro, is a bernese mt. dog/border collie mix. she was shot at:
Shooting Mode: Fast Shutter; 1/60; Aperture: 2.8; everything else auto
the sleek one, molly, is a hyperactive labrador retriever
Shooting Mode: Kids&Pets; 1/60; Aperture: 4.0; everything else auto
both with my powershot a95 around sunset. i think the flash was on, but apparently red-eye reduction doesn't work on dogs. :) i know astro's tongue is "blown" and as soon as i learn some photo retouching i'll try to fix that and the green-glowing eyes on molly. :) i've got "the gimp" and photoimpressions (comes with the a95) and i'm devoting a little time to playing with them. there is a learning curve...

Hi all, new member alert.
Just got myself a Canon S2, only the second camera I have ever owned (and the last one got about as much use as a chocolate tea pot), but found the old one restrictive once I started to enjoy snapping pics. (Edit: technically I suppose it's the third camera, I had the Konica Minolta Z6 for four days, we did not agree with each other).
Anyway I thought, as I got a lot of info from this site when making my decision on which camera to buy, I'd share a pic of my dippy dally with you (she's my test subject till I get used to the camera).
Not much of a pic I suppose but then I am pretty new to this, I'll post another in about a year or two and see if they get any better :)

Sorry for the poor quality on this one, but meet my new pal Banjo. It's really difficult to get any shots of him because this lil guy is afraid of cameras. I think it's the flash that scares him, but the minute he sees a camera, he's off and running. This morning I tried to sneak some shots of him in when he was in the yard, and he immediately managed to get under the back fence. I'm just glad he came back.

Heh. It's my fault. Rather than tell him "no" when these things happen, I go and get the camera. Here's one of Sammy voicing his opinion about being crated, and another of him enjoying some tomatoes from my wife's tomato plant. The crate shot was taken right after we got him from the pound. He's much better now (he doesn't sleep in a crate, but he doesn't rip all our stuff up anymore either - we've sort of reached an understanding).

My dog, Duncan, the one several pictures up, was attacked by a Pit Bull. People say that they are sweet, and I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the owner, but it seems that a preponderant number of Pit Bull's "snap." Needless to say, they make me very nervous!!!
I'm sorry, but given my own experiences with them, I couldn't help but respond.
ive never had bad experiences with pitbulls, and 3 of my uncles own one. they are awesome dogs! honestly, the ones that are dangerous and aggressive is because the owners train them to be that way, which i think is wrong. people use them as fighting dogs.
but this one is soon to be mine, a really nice boxer!

Since it was 73 degrees here today (Jan 2nd!), I decided to go play with the 85mm, f/1.4 lens.
Here's Harley and Dixie (brother & sister). They will be 5 yrs old this next spring. Dixie has been totally blind since she was about 2 yrs due to a retinal disease. We had them shaved this past summer and her fur hasn't grown back properly either. She's worn doggie sweaters/coats all winter, but I pulled it off for a little fresh air today. Her hair seems to actually be coming back a little more now.

this is my lab/retreiver mix, appropriately named blackie...as you can tell he is a "dog of age"
if you look closely, you can see me (the big dark blob) in the reflection of his eye

Another of the HARLEY DOG! I loved the dripping slobber in this one. His sister, Dixie, wasn't in a photo mood that day.

I don't have any pets, but I took this photo at the Columbus, Ohio St. Patrick's Day Parade yesterday. I loved that the owner wore a kilt. (And I really wish that guy in the background wouldn't have chosen that moment to dart across the street).

Here's my dog. Actually, I was in the park this past winter and the owner was nice enough to let me snap away. I'm a cat lover but this dog is beautiful.
A couple new ones of Lola:

The lens flare in this last one irritates me. Is there a way to fix it with Photoshop? I tried searching for some instructions but didn't get very far. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
new to the site and photography in general, other than b-day parties and vacation picture taking. :)
I just got a Canon 30D, lenses, and such (saved for over two years  ),
and look forward to learning tips and tricks on this forum.
Here is a pic of my son's Beagle, Barkley. I know it is close up but I'm at work and only have this one. I may post some more when I'm a bit more confident.

Not my dog.... and not a particularly great photo as it just didn't feel right taking photos at all... but nevertheless felt it important I share this. Went to an animal rescue shelter today, found it very upsetting - and these are the lucky ones. A good thing for those considering buying a dog to bear in mind..

having had "Tank" join our family, and be with us for over a month now or so...
well he is just the sweetest, most well mannered dog ever! He is bursting with love and is the ultimate family pet! Please people, as stated above, there are many dogs like this one that need to be saved, and given a good home. Go check out your local rescue site or local pound. Theres lots of good dogs out there deserving good homes that are otherwise doomed.
