I hope JTL is reading this - you seem to have a lot of background for comparison.
The SD300 would be perfect for the travel camera I seek - but the techies at Canon I spoke with really ran the red flag up the pole over the cracked LCD issue - they pretend it A) doesn't happen B) is because people carry these cameras carelessly "in a purse or pants pocket" (well, duh, why do they think we buy them?) and Canon does not respect the warranty if you get the infamous "purple blob" or F-18 error message.
Is the slightly smaller screen on the SD 400 indication that they resolved the problem, or come winter will this screen crack too - randomly, of course, not everyone complains of it. One writer skis with his, no problem.

So I'm back looking at the Casio Exilim. Which would be fine - but how much photo quality am I sacrificing?

I have an old but very servicable Olympus c3040 zoom for use at home and big occassions - I'd like the pocket camera (at least 4mp) for travel and every day use.
