I was able to use the A95 in high speed continuous shooting mode in the past, why cant I use it now???
More like 1 photo every 8 seconds in the fastest drive mode rather than what it sais in the manual, 2 shots every 1 second!!??
Whats goin on?

Unless there is a problem with your camera, what I can see is that you are using the flash.

you also need to turn off the lcd to get the 2/sec speed. check that section in the manual and make sure you've got all your conditions right.

Do you need to turn off the screen ?
I'm not sure, but you are probably right... Anyway in Continuous H mode, you can do close to 2 fps with the LCD turned on.

i think the spec is 1.5/sec with LCD, 2/sec without. fairly certain of this, because we looked it up in the manual two nights ago, but i don't have the manual at work with me, so i'm not going to swear to it. :) either way, the 1 shot/8 sec speed is most likely caused (as you said, newbie) by the flash, because the camera is waiting for the flash to recharge between drive shots.

Hi Newbie & Thalas'shaya
I've just realised that high speed drive mode works the slowest in M &TV mode! followed by the faster AV, and the fastest C & P mode.
Could you guys do me a favour to check if this is consistent with all A95's?
I guess I could use C as an alternative to M right? Just wondering if C mode would lack any manual control over M mode?
Then again, its still under warranty, so if its not working the way it should then Canon should fix it right.

Assuming the use of identical settings, I don't see why C should be any faster than M. I did a little testing with my A95, and the only thing that had any effect on the framerate (prior to the buffer filling) was the shutter speed.
Also, I'm pretty sure that the A95 forces an exposure lock after the first shot, so again I don't see any reason why the framerate should be different in the varying modes unless different shutter speeds are being used.
Are you testing with the same subject each time? A more complex scene might be filling the buffer faster.

ricjk, hi.
Bingo! It was the shutter speed. :D
Thanks, ricjk, Newbie & Thalas'shaya for kind contributions.
I love the A95! The more I use this camera the more Im lovin it.
At first I went for the A95 for its larger CCD feature, but now I've realised how fun it could be with the swivel LCD for discreet street photgraphy.
The perfect camera would be IMHO the Rebel XT with a swivel LCD.
Im suspecting the XT would have cleaner pictures even at its highest ISO rating, yes?

But you do realize the swivel LCD would really be of no value on a DSLR as you have to use the Viewfinder for taken photographs. Yes to the higher ISO cleaner images ... :)

The A95 is a wonderful camera for beginner to intermediate users alike.

Hay! You got both.. :)
Im sorry, what is the benefit of a viewfinder over an LCD display?
It would be a great feature if it was possible, cause you can yank up the ISO and with the fast shutter speed take pictures while walking and looking down at the camera without disconcerting the public.
Im still doing this with the A95 and the noise doesnt realy bother me that much.., It gives a raw sense of expression., and of course I can always use noise ninja.
