Because we are not making purchases continually, yours is a difficult question to answer. Tell me why you want to purchase the D-70 as a "body only?'

The 18-70mm kit lens is quite a good lens? What lens will you be adding to your "body only" purchase?

That is a good reason and it makes a lot of sense to me.

My purchase with buydig.com was flawless and the price was one of the best out there. The standard free shipping had the camera to me in 3 days. I haven't gotten my rebate yet, but I'm assuming that's because Nikon is slow (waiting about 6 weeks so far).

Check resellerratings.com for info on any retailer you plan to buy from.

Definitely don't buy the 18-70 lens given what you have already. If I had to do it again I would buy body only and then get the Tamrom 18-200 (which I have subsequently purchased).

Now the ultimate question is whether i should wait a couple weeks for the release of the nikon d50

You are exactly correct, if you desire to wait for a LESSER value, LESSER quality dslr, then please do wait as long as might be required for the D-50. Personally, I would not do that if I were you. I would get a D-70 now and enjoy it.

However, the choice is entirely yours!

I'm going to back the buydig comment.

I bought my D70 kit through them, and it was a flawless transaction.

I'd recommend buydig.com - I've had good experiences with them.
