Shot this coming home yesterday afternoon. While the pictures aren't great but many standards, this was taken with my Nikon 8800 at f2.8 at 1/250 of a second. The distance was easily 200 yards. The Nikon's vibration reduction lens rocks! Pictures weren't cropped. This was captured at the peak of the digital zoom.

I like your pictures.

I remember I was close to shooting some deer, but they are very timid creatures and it ran.

What you have to do is gaining familiarity from them. Don't walk in, just walk a bit and stop. Then walk a little again.

Use your maximum zoom. Act naturally. :)

True...

I'm hoping if I drive to Yosemite this summer, I can get some deer pix.

The distance on those pictures was pretty far. Took them from the road and across the river.

The key to shooting deer is getting up early in the morning before light. Spray fox urine on your boots and mist your clothes with pine scent. Sneak out to your spot and wait until dawn to call them in with either a "doe in heat" call or "buck" call. Then you wait. Either a camera or .30-06 rifle does the trick.

Don't need any crap. This is my hunting field. I shoot one deer each year for food. The rest of the year I love to shoot my camera.
