I shoot studio and outdoor portraits and actions shots, and use the Digital Rebel with the included 28-80mm lense. I've just picked up the Canon 75-300, but was wondering if I should go with the newer Sigma APO Macro Super II. They seem to be about the same price, and seems the Sigma is a better lense. Can anyone confirm this for me? I do like shooting outdoor/nature as well. Most of what I shoot for work though is inside. I hope this info helps on the decision.... :)

The Canon you have is a very nice camera that should suffice for what you need, unless you have money to burn. Take note that the Sigma accessories will generally cost more than the Canon products.

OK Gary, this one needs some splainin'.

The last time I checked Sigma lenses, of equal quality to Canon, were checking in at half the cost of Canon.

I have researched and experienced those lenses. The sigma is a better buy. But the focus will not be as fast as the canon. For consumer lenses and their prices, they are great buys though.

hmm.. I've beeen shooting with the Canon Lense a little, and it seems to work well, but what does have me curiouse is the Macro feature on the Sigma. There are two kinds of lenses that Sigma has, as I've been doing a little research. When you only have $200 to work with you want to be able to get the most bang for your buck. I thought the camera store down the street had the Sigma, but when I went in, it was the nonAPO for $199. I've found the APO Macro Super II online for the same price. I guess what I'm getting at, is the APO really a big deal, as I wound up buying the Canon EF 75-300mm III USM for $219. I have 5 days to return or exchange it. They just don't have the Sigma instock for me to campare them. I've tried comparing the two side by side online, spec wise, but I have to admit, I'm a little too amateur to understand the diff. lol

the little extra on the APO is worth it. With APO color aborration is reduced dramatically. That would be the only lens I would choose from the bunch, despite it lacking HSM.

Thank you Obijuan, looks like I'll have to take this Canon lense back and get the Sigma. I wasn't real impressed with the Canon to tell you the truth.
