After considerable research I have narrowed my choice to 3 P&S cameras: Canon SD500, Sony DSC-W7, and the newest of all, the Casio EX-Z750. These are all 7mp cameras at about the same price. I want a small (but not as small as the Sony P-200), camera with some preset scenes, one with a minimum shutter lag, and one that takes good video (640x480). I have a "quick" shutter finger and miss some good shots because of delay in pre-focus. My need is for travel, grandkid pictures, some sport schenes, and lots of scenery pictures. The SD500 is good size but comments about quality of pictures is disturbing. DSC W-4 is marginal for size but scene selection is simple with the external selection dial. The Casio has tremendous features and good size - although scene selection is through the menu. I am not sure about Casio quality compared to the other two. New user comments are just now appearing in the forums. Any comments on my remarks would be most appreciated.

Certainly the Canon SD-500 has received very favorable reviews and many users love it. The Olympus C7000 has also received some critical acclaim.

Any comments about image quality lacking on the SD500 is coming from people who wasted their money on another camera and are upset because they didn't get the SD500 to begin with.
Seriously though...I have owned my SD500 for around 2 weeks or so now and have taken several hundred shots in all lighting conditions. I could not be happier with the camera. I have posted several threads inthe Photo Gallery forum. Please feel free to check them out. You can also see pictures at www.imageevent.com/cartoonnerd
Video quality is absolutely fantastic for a digital camera. The only way to get better video would be to just buy a video camera.
Anyway...thats my two cents. I like my SD500.

You say you want a small camera but not as small as the P200. Why then, are you even considering the SD500, which is actually a little smaller than the P200?

If u are looking for 7 MP think of Nikon 7600 or 7900. As for rapid shooting for sports and grandkids, I would consider Panasonic, although they are only 5 MP.
As for rapid shooting (I take picture of grandkid), the moment is over by the time camera takes a picture. I have not seen a good digital camera for rapid shooting, other than SLR which are heavy and bulky.
Good luck with your hunt
