I have read tons of posts of about the difference in picture quality between the SD200 and the S400/s410. Many people comment about the difference in the specs. I have seen a few sample photos on the web, but I can’t notice any difference between the two cameras. I know that the SD will have some purple fringing and some blur in the corners under probably only rare circumstances. Can someone who has seen prints from both of these cameras offer any comments? Thanks

I compared the SD200 to my S200. Here are my brief observations of print quality. I won't comment on all the differences between these cameras which have been covered by all of the reviews and other posts. There was no real difference in print quality for outdoor shots. Indoors, the flash is much better on the SD200 (or at least, the auto settings result in a better picture, meaning better exposure). The indoor auto white balance on the SD200 is better than the S200. The auto white balance on the S200 results in too warm of a picture. The auto white balance indoors on the SD200 is much more accurate. In my opinion, a point and shoot camera is only as good as its auto settings.

I had S200 and now have SD200. Picture sharpness, contrast, saturation, white balance, flash and noise is much better on SD. Focus speed, macro mode, batery time too. And SD is much smaller (thiner) and lighter!

Yes, SD (but S too) will have some purple fringing when you take photo of tree branches into direct sunlight or in other case, where you get an overexposure and highliht is burn out. If you wish these purple gone, you allways can set -0.3EV - that helps very much! ;)

SD has much better: macro mode, autoWB, video and speed (all operation). Noise level is better too (pretty usable ISO200).

SD takes SD cards.
S takes CF cards.

SD has the Digic-II chip = much less shutter lag, faster photos
SD has a much better movie mode
SD has more presets
SD has much bigger screen
