Thanks wombat, certainly looks like it. Don't remeber mine having such long legs but then could be a different variety. Feel quite privalaged to have got a nice photo of it, he did zip about a fair bit.

Interesting. Think I've seen them as far east as North Carolina. Thought it might have always been some type of horny desperate bee!

Hi Allan,
I am British, but living in the Netherlands. I myself saw such a creature as this bee come fly type creature when I visited Luxemburg June 2006, and like you have been trying to find out what it was. I am about to look at that web site suggested to you by another user re "bee fly", to satisfy my curiosity.... if possible. Was such an odd looking creature.
