My wife is the leader of a youth group. One of the members was using his camera (gotten in December) for an event and it grew legs and walked away. My wife would like to somehow replace the camera - either by giving money to the kid or actually buying one to replace it. And she would like to keep the costs down, since this is a non-profit organization and, like most of them, doesn't have a whole bunch of money.
Problem - it's a discontinued item and I can't find anyone who has a new one. Can anyone suggest a seller that might have one? If not, are there current Sonys that would be an equivalent of this? (or perhaps another brand). Any other suggestions?

You might still be able to find a reputable mailorder house that has the DSC-V1. Sears and Ritz Camera had them some time ago for $300 U.S. Your best bet would probably be to try a search engine such as Google. I'm sure you'll find several places that have them but the price might be more than you're willing to pay. If you find one at the right price be sure and check the seller out at resellerratings.com as there are more scammer mailorder houses out there than honest ones.
You may also wish to try Ebay it's not my favorite place to do business with but I know many folks who have been happy with their purchases there.

It would be most logical to go for its current form the V3 which is a wonderful camera going relatively cheap now. If Best Buy can sell it below list price at $550, I'm sure you can easily find it for $500 or below now.

It's not at Sears today, as it hasn't been in the past, HOWEVER, it was there when we ordered it - so, theoretically, it's on its way!
Thanks a bunch.
