Sony P200 vs Canon SD300

I've been reading review sites....message boards...etc...for well on a week now (going on 5 hours just tonight) and I'm down to these two I think based on cost and feature set.

I really need some help with this...

Which one has better image quality? From everything I've read, the Sony has a better lens and no review has mentioned purple fringing on it whatsoever. I also looked into the W1 but the P200 seems to be the same camera/features/quality in a smaller package.

Thanks in advance for any help...I'm completely stressing out over this now.

The P200 should be the better camera. Better image quality, more manual controls, better battery life. But it is bigger and more expensive, too. I would get the P200. I have one and liked it enough to return my SD500.

I've had it for several weeks now. It takes very sharp, clear photos, has a lot of control if you want it, no red eye or fringing at all. I cannot speak for the SD300, but I did return an SD200 due to grainy pics in low light. I do not have that problem with the P200.

What are your feelings on the MemoryStick as a memory medium? That's really the one thing holding me back right now because of the high cost of them compared to everything else. That and I wouldnt want to not be able to get them eventually if Sony pulls them for some reason in the future.

I had a SD300 (Ixus40) but sold it , when taking pics in bright light they are good but suffer with purple fringing alot also low light and indoor pics are very noisy.

The P200 will be alot better camera.

I wouldnt worry about Sony not making the cards there will always be a demand for them for several years to come and by that time you would probably get another camer anyway :)

I just bought the p200 can do you know if you can do panoramic stiching with it? I think the SD500 has this ability.
