View Full Version : canon 17-40L vs Sigma 15mm diagonal fisheye
i got my sigma 15mm diagonal fisheye a day early so i did a few tests
the sigma starts at f2.8 while the canon at f4.0 so obviously i couldn't compare shots at f2.8. the shots were taken tripod mounted, indoors, with the self timer. i moved to tripod back and forth so that images appear the same size at 100%. i left out the sigma shot at f5.6 because i totally screwed it up. all shots taken in Aperture priority mode.
OUCH! these images were uncompressed but they look awful after uploading. i guess things didn't turn out as well as i had hoped.
well, even if you can't see the differences in sharpness that well hopefully you can see the difference in the color of the sky. the two on the left were taked with the canon and the one on the right is with the sigma. the one on the far left is taken with the HOYA SMC protective UV filter on. these shots would display better if i linked them to another site right? i don't have a site right now to put them on though... anybody know of a way around the display quality issue?

Yep use imageshack and its FREE: http://imageshack.us/index.php I'd like to see the results.
And use the "Direct link to image" to post your image without pop ups or banner ads.
alright, thanks! i'll look into that later as i have to be offline for the next 4 hours for a particular reason. btw, is it free for only a certain amount of time?

Free forever. I've used it for over a year now, you just have to resize so the image isn't over 1024 kilobytes.

I can definitely see the difference. Looks like that 15mm is a keeper...
Bluedog: i uploaded the image at the imageshack site but it kinda looks the same as above.

jamison55: wow, you have a good eye. if i hadn't already seen the results in full resolution, i'm not sure i'd be able to tell much from the pictures above.
yeah, this lens is a keeper for sure. :D i was expecting it to be less than the 17-40L even though the sigma is a prime, but i was really surprised by the results.
