Thought I'd put in a plug for Wal-Mart and on-line developing.
Last weekend I left the North Carolina mountains to visit my mother in Charlotte. It's roughly a two hour trip. I uploaded several pictures she had been asking for, and figured with one hour developing ( at .$.19 each for a 4 x 6) where we would be in route. I had the pictures sent to a Wal-Mart store half way.
Fantastic results. Please try it. I also thought the quality much better and more affordable than my 4MB printer.
Anybody else had the same results?
Yes, I've used the upload online feature for both WalMart and Sam's Club and love them. You pay with a credit card and pick the prints up an hour later. I've always been very pleased with their picture quality.
You can also have them printed at ANY WalMart or Sam's Club, so you could select at a store near a distant relative's/friend's house and tell them to go pick up the pre-paid pictures.

I've just done that over the weekend. My family met my mother and a very old friend from out of state for lunch and we met halfway through the state. When I got back to the house, I uploaded the pictures to her nearby Wal-Mart. Six 4x6 prints were $1.20 on the one hour developing. Both my mother and her friend were very impressed and had a souvenir of the trip!
My next project with Wal-Mart is going to be trying a large 20x30 print and see how well it comes out.

Thanks for posting and alterting me to the fact that they've greatly improved their on-line turnaround time. When I first looked into this, they had a several day delay between submitting and printing, which didn't make a lot of sense given their one-hour processing capability. I've been happy with the job my local Sam's Club does with 4x6 prints; it will be nice to be able to submit them in advance and not have to wait for an hour at the store.

I just used Walmart.com for a few photos. Both times I used it, the turn around time was actually under an hour. I even had an 8x10 printed. The colors look great, price was good, and the service was good. I'll use them again for sure.

What?! You can't have a good time in a Sam's or Wal-Mart? I love that place! Boone, North Carolina is a small community. Wal-Mart is the regular "Saturday night" entertainment.

:D my grandparents lived in a small town in east texas and literally had one of those signs you hang out on your front door that said "gone to wal-mart". it was THE place to see and be seen and get your shopping done in that town. i remember living in a town so small that they didn't have a mall, so teenagers went to "hang out" at wal-mart there. hours of entertainment to be had! i second kornhauser on this one...

Well of course one could make an evening at Walmart. In my case, though, it's a Sam's Club. They have their own built-in method to help you kill an hour there - it takes that long to make it up to the register in the checkout line.

Our nearest Sam's is an hour away. Wal-Mart (stock-holder!) is more convienent.
Dave, it's people like you that make a trip out of Sam's just for the free food samples?! Right? :) :D
