Hello all! I am doing my homework before jumping into the digital revolution. After much turmoil I have boiled my choices down to the Canon A95 or the G6. Any opinions on either of these would be appreciated. However, as these are very mechanically complicated devices I have been considering purchasing an extended warranty. One would think this would be very easy or I am expecting too much from the underwriters. After speaking with several companies it appears that most will not cover maintenance, checkups or other incidental visits. Furthermore, if the unit should be dropped, banged, or molested in any manner other than picking it up out of the camera bag while sitting in ones house and taking the picture then returning it back to the bag the claim will more than likely be rejected. FOLKS, it is a camera and while we all do our best to watch out for them they can and will be subjected to the 'real world.' Is it too much to ask that a warranty (and I don't mind paying reasonable rate for the protection) cover the camera for the real world? I presented the following scenarios to at least two different companies: you visit the beach and the camera is in a tote bag lens up and while you are in the water a hot dog eating individual shuffles along and kicks up some sand of which 1 (ONE) grain gets into the lens zoom mechanism. NOW the lens is inop - camera sent in for repair - CLAIM disallowed as sand is NOT a mfgrs defect. Remember you didn't drag it through the sand or throw it in the water. I asked again, should the LCD display become intermittent and the unit is sent in for repair. It was discovered that moisture got into the lcd (just got back from Costa Rica = HUMIDITY +) which caused the problem would this be covered - NO- moisture shouldn't get into the LCD. Remember it wasn't thrown into a pool or the ocean just moisture in the air. Go on an African jeep safari tour (camera in hand or around neck) into the outback with jeep bouncing across the veldt - go to take picture camera doesn't work. Sent in for repair - dust found - NOT COVERED as dust should not be in the camera and is not a mfgrs defect. in this example one cannot be expected to keep the camera locked in a bag to be whipped in and out (whiplash not covered) and possible missing that most important shot. I really have concerns about buying a new camera without an extended warranty but I want one that will cover the unit in real time. SORRY for the long post but I really could use some input = did you find a policy that you were happy with that adequately covered the unit - WHO AND WHERE or am I being totally unrealistic or anywhere inbetween. Thanks again and I truly look forward to your posts...

Bought my A95 at Best Buy and paid $49 for the 4 year extended warranty. They offer free cleaning if you need it under the warranty. According to them if the Camera can't be repaired it will be replaced with the same or equal model at the time.
