I'm in auto mode. When I press the shutter half-way down the orange LED lights and then I see green rectangles. Sometimes I see one, sometimes I see many. What are they and what do they do? I couldn't find anything in the manual. Thanks.

The green rectangles show you what the camera is focusing on. One rectangle means it is only focusing on one part of the picture. More than one means it is using more than one point in the image to focus, using the 9-point AIAF focusing mode.

Thanks....so the more rectangles the better?

Thanks....so the more rectangles the better? Not necessarily...it depends on what you intended to be focusing on and the depth-of-field you're trying to achieve.
