could someone explain the purple fringin in the gallery images?
is it the lens or camera?

I would guess it's primarily the lens. Whether it's the camera or the lens might be discovered in the pictures from the 300D using the same lens.

P.S. But Im too lazy, and apathetic, to go look. ;)

this was done with the 50mm f/1.8 it is not known for its ability to stop CA.
here is a 100% crop of the minimal CA.
I feel what is visible is blooming rather than CA.

I will take some examples with the canon 70-200 f/4 soon aswell.

no prob.
I wish I would have been more carefull, the sun got me in one of the shots.
my left eye still has a "spot" on it... :D
