Here is a shot of the Point Pinos lighthouse in Pacific Grove, CA. Shot about a month ago. I was one of the last Coast Guard lightkeepers before it was automated in 1974.

You were? Awesome. I love lighthouses. You photo is wonderful -- much more interesting that the usual lighthouse photo. Here's my rather boring composition of the Pt. Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro, CA, also taken about a month ago, right after I got my Canon A95.

OOps. Normally I direct people to my smugmug site and it has all the info with the picture.

This was taken with the D70 using the Sigma 18-125 DC handheld (one of the few times I forgot the Manfroto monopod). f5.6, 1/800, ISO200, 125mm.

The one thing I really like about lighthouses is that they are all pretty unique, and are generally in a very photographic setting. Being the lighhouse keeper was a very cool job as besides taking care of the light (and the foghorn) I also gave tours. The tour guides are still there, during the day, but since about 1974 the light is fully automated.

Great pic. Maybe we should start a lighthouse picture thread.

Thanks Sarah, The next time I will shoot it from the dunes and from the south side (with a tripod). This lighthouse is right at the western tip of the Monterey Peninsula (my original home town area).
