Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
Up to $600 (Australian). But I have a friend who'll be price hunting/haggling for me in Japan in about a week & a half :p

Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Something compact so I can take out clubbing & for happy snaps. It has to fit into my purse, but I don't mind something abit bigger than the Sony DSC-T1

Features
*How many megapixels will suffice for you?
Ideally between 5-7, but if there's a great camera that can produce good quality photos then I'll be happy with a 4

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
Standard

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
8-10. I really want to have great photos

Do you care for manual controls?
I'm not that knowledgeable about digital cameras, so whatever is typical. I need something durable & long-lasting, that won't cause me too many problems.

General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for?
Mostly happy snaps when I go out. I need something that can take great photos at a moments notice. So indoors, outdoors, daytime, night, low light (this is where I've found my original choice [Sony DSC-T1] failed. I have a sony camcorder which is great & I wanted to use the same memory sticks. But that idea has now been scrapped). So something with a longlasting battery & sufficient memory would be fantastic.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Rarely if at all

* Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Yes

* Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Yes

Miscellaneous
*Are there particular brands you like or hate?
I've been told canon & kodak are good. But I suppose it depends on which camera (once again that's why I'm here for help 'cause I don't know a great deal). I used to have faith in Sony 'cause my camcorder always works great. But yeah I think some of their digital cameras are lacking
* Are there particular models you already have in mind?
I like the digicams with ample sized LCD screens (atleast 2 inches) & durable parts. At the moment I've been looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7, Canon Powershot SD500 Digital ELPH & the Kodak Easyshare One. If anyone has any indepth knowledge of the new Easyshare One I'd love to hear it. It looks packed with features, but I want to know if it delivers as a great point & shoot camera, with great picture quality :) I suppose that's one of the benefits with buying a big-brand like Kodak. 'Cause there are kodak stores everywhere

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
>Wide angle would be nice but no necessary
>Image stabilization not so much if the camera can focus well
>Weatherproof should not be a problem if the camera is durable & I take care of things very well
>Hotshoe I don't even know what that is :p
>Rotating LCD is not vital, but would be a nice feature (once again I need more info on the new Kodak Easyshare One)

Thanks for reading & I hope any digi-savvy people on this site can offer me some advice! Have fun & take care :)

Platnium-

Two digital cameras come to mind that might meet your specifications:

Take a look at either the Pentax Optio S5i (5mp 3X optical zoom) or the Kodak DX-7440 (4mp, 4X optical zoom).
