I was almost ready to buy the Sony P200... then the Canon SD500 report came out. Looking at the reports and Jeff's photo galleries I noticed the pictures of the church with the stained glass windows appear quite different. The photos with the Sony P150 as compared to the Canon SD500 show a stark contrast. (I am using the P150 report because I have not seen any P200 reports, and I think the P150 and the P200 have the same mechanism.)
Notice in the P150 picture, the stained glass windows have a brownish cast, while in the Canon SD500 they have a bluish cast. I think the bluish cast is the proper color. Correct??
Yet, I see reports from users saying that the color from the P200 is "out standing." Alas, I am confused... the P150's brownish cast (it is evident in more than just the stained glass windows), is that a P150 characteristic, or is it to be expected with the P200? I notice the Sony W1 photos have the bluish cast.
Then again, I think maybe I should wait for the Casio Z750...
Please enlighten me...
Thanks in advance...

The SD500 can produce more vivid colors, especially with My Colors and photo effects: Vivid. Sony shouldn't squeeze too much into the P200 if they can't - There'll be side effects if they do (Which is what they did)

Thanks for the info... but I do notice the Sony P150 shows less purple fringing (chromatic aberration) than the Canon D500... and again there are all the user reports of great color and great pictures.... more confusion...

I think a little more purple fringing is a very minor sacrifice for great, crisp pictures ;)

The yellow cast you see is not about saturation but about what is sometimes called color temperature. In camera terms, it's probably about white balance. The sony is 'warmer' while the canon is 'cooler'. As for what is closer to neutral, I would say the canon. The sony looks way too 'warm' 'yellow' to be the correct colors.

The photos produced by the SD500 are overall better than the P200's. Probably due to the DIGIC II processor.
