I am fairly new to DSLR's and I need your advise on buying a new lens for my Canon EoS 300D. I am looking for a lens with lots of zoom and maybe a Macro Feature. I am also wondering if its possible to combine to different lens. Also I was looking to buy a 2x teleconverter to go on the new lens.

Please give me your opinions and advise on these 2 items

You prbably won't find a true Macro lens to equal an all-in-one. Most Macro/Micro lenses have a minimum focal distance of around 7 inches.

For a long zoom on a budget try the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro for about $250. The Kenko 2X adaptor might be iffy, but I have never used one so it might be worth $69 to try it out.

If you are going to buy the Macro Super 2, PLEASE make sure you get the "APO Macro Super II" model it is MUCH better than the DL model.... If they don't say it is APO it is probably the DL model....

Another possibility is the Tamron 70-300 LD, it is fairly good too for what it is, and has 1:2 macro (half life size) not true 1:1 macro, but pretty good.... The Sigma also has this fetaure...

Personally I would not be happy with the performance of any teleconverter on either of these lenses, you need a pretty good quality lens to start with to get good results out of even a good teleconverter...
