I went to a Rascal Flatts concert in December and only had a disposable camera (I know, bad idea, but I didn't think I would be that disappointed with the shots. Silly me!) and I was also on a cruise and still only had another disposable camera, which has prompted me to look for a digital camera. I am going to New York City in August and want something that will take awesome shots, and if I go on a cruise or when I go to my next concert I want awesome pictures. Here comes the tricky part for me. I want at least a 4mp, I think and I want an LCD screen. I am not sure what brand to get or what specs I need, but here is the survey, so maybe you can help?
Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
As close to $300 as possible, not really anymore (a few dollars over wouldn't kill me, but you know, not too much more than $300)
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
I don't know exactly. I will be carrying it around a lot in NYC, so nothing really huge or heavy. Also, easily portable and small for vacations and concerts.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
At least 4
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x)
This is where I get a little confused. :confused: Is it always better to have a high optical zoom? I am an amateur (sp?) photographer and as I have mentioned will be using it for recreational use (concerts, vacations, family shots, etc.) but still want awesome zoom for those things. I apologize that I really didn't answer the question, but based on what I would use it for, what zoom would you recommend?
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
Image quality is very important to me so I would say 9
Do you care for manual controls?
I am not really sure, but I guess so
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for? vacations, concerts, pictures of friends
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? not really big, just standard size, I would say
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? both
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? concerts
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate? nothing chincy or no name brands
Are there particular models you already have in mind? not really
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Image stabilization would be nice. Maybe AF assist lamps. AA batteries would be nice, I think
I think that is about it. Sorry I am not too specific on some things. I would really appreciate your advice and suggestions. I live in a very small town and do not have a store that I can go to for assistance in my search. Thanks in advance! :)
