We're trying to decide which camera would be right for a beginner who is going on safari to take the usual shots. Some might be enlarged to 8x10.
We would appreciate your input.

Either one should be ok for prints that size. The FZ20 can produce quailty prints a bit larger than that but by only a couple inches on a side. Feature wise both cameras are very similar and performance wise a beginner wouldn't notice the difference. If the beginner later want's to grow with the camera the fz20 might be a better choice as it offers accessory features the fz15 does not offer including the flash mount and wired remote.

Either camera will make excellant 8 X 10's and in my opinion quite a bit larger.
I have made wonderful 8 X 10's from a FZ10.
If you want to make posters there are programs that will allow you to do that also.

Because it has less image noise, and the isos 200 and 400 are more useful, important to take pictures in motion.

I think either one would be fine, but if Iwere going on a safari I would be inclined to pick the FZ20 just in case an opportunity arose to take some videos with sound. The FZ15's video mode does not include audio. I'd hate to lose an elephant's trumpet or a lion's roar if the opportunity arose.

it is a pity to take bad quality videos with so interesting themes.
