Does anyone know how well the Canon 20D performs for focusing under low light? How is it compared to the Digital Rebel or even the Digital Rebel XT? Thanks.

Just shot a rock band a week ago in very low light. Shot at 3200 iso and was amazed with what I got. I was afraid it would have trouble focusing but I was very happy with it. Don't have any experience in the other 2 cameras you mentioned. Hope this helps.

the 20D can focus at EV 0 so that is damn good. the XT I believe uses an upgraded version of the 300D's focusing system. the XT's system is not as good as the 20D but good enough. I also believe it can focus to EV 1. wich is almost dark.

the cameras will be limited also by your lens choice. some lower quality lenses will hunt longer and sometimes make you miss a crucial shot.

Here is a link to an album that contains a whirling dancer taken at ISO 1600 with a Canon 20D. I considered using the ISO 3200, but I wanted to show the rapid motion of the dancer. This was an "on stage" shot with very blow available light.

Nice shot. Curious as to what lens you were using?

I was using a Canon EF 28-135mm F 3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. I have found that this lens gives me a little extra advantage in low light situations such as shown in the whirling dancer.

How do you like that lens overall. It is one that I am considering for my 20D, along with Canon's EF 24-85 f3.4-4.5 USM and Tamron's 28-75 f2.8 XR DI. Thanks.

The Tamron 28-75mm is an excellent lens. I have also used a Tokina 24-200mm lens which gives me more telephoto with my 20 D and liked that very well too. At about $300 from B & H, the Tikina is a good buy.
