than the FZ3 that I just bought? The FZ3's pictures are decent, but I was wondering if the flash is stronger on the FZ20, even with the maximum flash on the FZ3. Also do people think it is worth the extra $150-$175 for the FZ20. Is the image quality that much better?

I guess between the FZ20 and FZ23, the image quality is about the same.
Image stabilization on the FZ20 is much better though.

according to the reviews.
The flash is about the same, there is a slight difference in quality but my guess is you should wait for the FZ5 or FZ?.

But I am sure a little practicing will go a long way. Leave the ISO on auto and boost the output of the flash.

This is one part of the FZ cameras that take some practice.

Where did you hear/read this? I thought that the stabilization modes on the FZ3/15/20 are the same. Did I miss something?

The picture quality will certainly improve if you mount a more powerful external flash on the FZ20 via its hotshoe. I know this isn't as convenient as the built-in flash, but the results with an external flash are fantastic.

People on this forum tend to favor the Sunpak 383 Super and the Vivitar 285HV for use on the FZ20. Using an external flash like these will provide better colors, better illumination range, eliminate red-eye, and conserve the camera's battery power.

A little related info:

"One of the cool uses for the 383 is to point it straight backwards. The light bounces behind you and back to the subject all diffused very nicely. You can get flash shots that don't look at all like flash shots. Try it sometime and see what you think. You may have to bump it up to the yellow or red range to trick it into giving enough light however." -Steve Thuman
