Ok - I've had a pretty good look.
The reviews mention a pretty good Manual White on this camera but I can't find it. Lots of handy white settings, it even tells me on the image info on the viewer on the PC that it was Manual white sometimes!!
On my other camera it was in there with the other white settings.
Does anyone know how I find it, if it's there at all??
(Nice camera BTW)

OK
Sorry - Found it - discreetly hidden under the others.
Anyone got any comments on the settings for this camera??
Prefered settings etc

Weird!!
I got my piece of white paper and did as the instruction book says
and low and behold it did it - but it takes a piccy of the piece of white paper in the process!!
Anyone else played with the Manual white??

I just tried that out today. The sun was setting, and I knew these white flowers would look very yellow. Since they were white, I used them to set the manual white balance.
Now I'm considering carrying 1/4 of a Kodak gray card in my bag, something I did when I was in a college photo class.

So how did you go about it & did you have to take a picture in order to set the white balance??? Also - how would you use the Kodak Grey card when the camera is using White as the reference??? It's one area I'm not 100% clear on with this camera.

It's one area I'm not 100% clear on with this camera. One side of the Kodak Grey Card is 18% reflectance gray, the other is 90% reflectance white.
I just selected the "set" option under custom white balance, which grays out most of the viewfinder, leaving a small rectangle in the middle. I moved in on the white petals until one filled it (it doesn't even have to be in focus), then pressed the shutter. The camera then prompted me to save it in CWB 1 or 2. Really simple, and no exposure was recorded at that point.
In theory, I would guess you could as easily use the gray side too, because you are just setting the color of something neutral, not exposure.
