ext bat pack

i have purchased from maplin an ext li on bat source giving selectable 7.5v-2.1A or 9v-1.8A does anyone know if the 9V will be ok for the 8.4v dc i/p.
also is the dc i/p also used to charge battery in situ. if so would 9v ok to use if bat is dead (ie would bring voltage down)

I think 9 volts is too much. And I would not want to guess when it would be safe.
What to do is leave the Panasonic battery out of the camera until the battery pack is about dead, then disconnect it and insert the Panasonic battery.

This battery pack which many of us use is 7.2 volts so I would use the 7.5 option.
